Tiya Miles—member, Presidential Committee on Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery; Radcliffe Alumnae Professor, Harvard Radcliffe Institute; Professor of History, Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences; and author, All That She Carried: The Journey of Ashley’s Sack, a Black Family Keepsake (Random House, 2021)—will take up the pecan tree as inspiration for exploring the meaning of trees in the lives of enslaved African Americans.
